"Christmas Letter from Jesus"

Dear children,

It has come to my attention that many of you are upset that folks are
taking my name out of the season. Maybe you've forgotten that I
wasn't actually born during this time of the year and that it was
some of you're predecessors who decided to celebrate My birthday on
what was actually a time of a pagan festival. Although I do
appreciate being remembered anytime. How I personally feel about this
celebration can probably be most easily understood by those of you
who have been blessed with children of your own. I don't care what
you call the day. If you want to celebrate my birth just, GET ALONG
AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER. Now, having said that let me go on.

If it bothers you that the town in which you live doesn't allow a
scene depicting my birth, then just get rid of a couple of Santas and
snowmen and put in a small Nativity scene on your own front lawn. If
all my followers did that, there wouldn't be any need for such a
scene on the town square because there would be many of them all
around town.

Stop worrying about the fact that people are calling the tree a
holiday tree, instead of a Christmas tree. It was I who made all
trees. You can & may remember me anytime you see any tree. Decorate a
grape vine if you wish: I actually spoke of that one in a teaching
explaining who I am in relation to you & what each of our tasks were.
If you have forgotten that one, look up John 15: 1 -8.

If you want to give me a present in remembrance of my birth here is
my wish list. Choose something from it…

1. Instead of writing protest letters objecting to the way my
birthday is being celebrated, write letters of love and hope to
soldiers away from home. They are terribly afraid and lonely this
time of year. I know, they tell Me all the time.

2. Visit someone in a nursing home. You don't have to know them
personally. They just need to know that someone cares about them.

3. Instead of writing George complaining about the wording on the
cards his staff sent out this year, why don't you write and tell him
that you'll be praying for him and his family this year. Then follow
up. It will be nice hearing from you again.

4. Instead of giving your children a lot of gifts you can't afford
and they don't need, spend time with them. Tell them the story of my
birth, and why I came to live with you down here. Hold them in your
arms and remind them that I love them.

5. Pick someone that has hurt you in the past and forgive him or her.

6. Did you know that someone in your town will attempt to take their
own life this season because they feel so alone and hopeless? Since
you don't know who that person is, try giving everyone you meet a
warm smile it; could make the difference. Also, you might consider
supporting the local Hot-Line: they talk with people like that every
day.

7. Instead of nit picking about what the retailer in your town calls
the holiday, be patient with the people who work there. Give them a
warm smile and a kind word. Even if they aren't allowed to wish you
a "Merry Christmas" that doesn't keep you from wishing them one. Then
stop shopping there on Sunday. If the store didn't make so much money
on that day they'd close and let their employees spend the day at
home with their families.

8. If you really want to make a difference, support a missionary,
especially one who takes my love & Good News to those who have never
heard My name. You may already know someone like that.

9. Here's a good one. There are individuals & whole families in your
town who not only will have no "Christmas" tree, but neither will
they have any presents to give or receive. If you don't know them
(and I suspect you don't) buy some food & a few gifts & give them to
the Marines, the Salvation Army or some other charity which believes
in me & they will make the delivery for you.

10. Finally if you want to make a statement about your belief in and
loyalty to me, then behave like a Christian. Don't do things in
secret that you wouldn't do in my presence. Let people know by your
actions that you are one of mine.

Vatican to publish Knights Templar trial

Later this month, the Vatican will publish a document which lay forgotten in the Pope's secret archives for hundreds of years. It is the account of the trial of the Knights Templar during the reign of Pope Clement V at the beginning of the fourteenth century. This report from David Willey:

This is one of the most astonishing publishing ventures ever. Even with a cover price of over eight thousand dollars, the facsimile edition of the minutes of the trial of the Knights Templar is already a financial success. Libraries and collectors from around the world have reserved most of the eight hundred copies of the parchment documents and an accompanying book which are going on sale soon.
The parchment tells in mediaeval Latin how the legendary Crusader Knights - who still fascinate contemporary writers of popular fiction - were tried for heresy by the Inquisition and found not guilty.

The Christian military order - who called themselves the Poor Fellow Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon - protected Christian pilgrims visiting the Holy Land from the beginning of the Crusades. But after the recapture of Jerusalem by Muslims and military defeats of Crusader armies two centuries later, the knights fell on hard times. To answer accusations of heresy because of alleged secret initiation ceremonies and other crimes, Pope Clement ordered a trial and it’s the record of these proceedings - which partially rehabilitated the Knights - that are now being published in this expensive luxury edition.

U.S. tries to ease entry for foreign travelers

In February, Eric Rozenberg, a Belgian travel executive, was en route to a convention in Cancun, Mexico, from Brussels when, he said, he experienced firsthand what other foreign travelers had told him about the problems of getting into the United States.

He said an official took him aside with no explanation as he went through immigration in the Dallas-Fort Worth airport and sent him to a separate room.

After waiting there nearly 90 minutes, Rozenberg, who travels to the United States on business at least six times a year, said, he "very politely" asked another officer what was taking so long. The officer glanced at Rozenberg's passport again, told him to wait another 10 minutes, then handed it back to him without explanation.

The officer asked if he had missed his connecting flight, Rozenberg recalled. When he replied that he had, "he said casually: 'Oh, sorry about that. Just tell them you were detained at immigration,' " Rozenberg said.

Similar complaints from foreign business and leisure travelers have led the U.S. government to take steps to improve the treatment of travelers upon arrival. In February 2006, the Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security announced a program, called Secure Borders and Open Doors, aimed at balancing the increased need for security after the 2001 terrorist attacks with the desire to ease travel to the United States.

Last February, the Homeland Security Department started the Traveler Redress Inquiry Program, or TRIP (trip.dhs.gov), which provides an online form travelers can use to file complaints electronically about any travel-related government entity. "It offers more transparency and a one-stop location for travelers, say, who feel they weren't treated properly or missed a flight because of a DHS employee's actions," said Kelly Klundt, a spokeswoman for Customs and Border Protection, which is part of the Homeland Security Department.

But while government officials say they are trying for change, there is no way to tell if progress has been made. Klundt said she did not know whether the government kept statistics on complaints about poor treatment by customs and border officials.

Geoff Freeman is the executive director of the Discover America Partnership, a Washington lobbying group of leaders from the Travel Business Roundtable, Marriott International, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, the Travel Industry Association and other companies and organizations. Since the organization was formed last September to promote the United States abroad, it has received hundreds of phone calls and e-mail messages from foreign travelers complaining of poor treatment by customs and border officials, he said.

But, while "most people who've come here from overseas since 9/11 say the entry experience is poor," beyond the airport, Freeman said, "their U.S. experience is good enough that they'll probably come back."

The partnership also found, however, that if foreigners had not visited the United States since Sept. 11 or had never visited, "the stories they're reading or hearing about the poor entry experience are discouraging them from visiting," Freeman said.

He said statistics from the World Trade Organization showed a 17 percent increase in worldwide travel since Sept. 11, while data from the U.S. Office of Travel and Tourism Industries showed travel to the United States declining by the same percentage over the same period.

Former Governor Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania, who served as the first secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, is working with the Discover America Partnership to find ways to improve the entry experience. "By and large, my former colleagues do a good job," Ridge said. "But anecdotally, I've heard we have to be a lot more sensitive. If even one traveler in 10,000 has a bad experience, that ripple effect is harmful."

Prakton Mal, who was born in India, lives in Oslo and is a Norwegian citizen, said many of his colleagues would rather participate in a videoconference "than travel to the United States and risk embarrassment and ill treatment."

In March, he said, while on a business trip, he was treated rudely by a "very sour and impolite" immigration official at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport because he had forgotten to sign and date his immigration form. "It was a small incident, but it could have been avoided," Mal said. He said he takes 18 international business trips a year, "and I sometimes feel that the United States stands out with their arrogant behavior toward innocent incoming businesspeople."

One executive, a U.S. citizen who was born in France, said he presented his U.S. passport to a customs official at Miami International Airport after returning from an overseas business trip.

The official noticed he was also carrying a French passport.

"He told me it was illegal to carry two passports," the executive recalled. "He held both passports in front of me and asked, 'Which one do you want me to destroy?' like it was a game."

The executive, who did not want his name disclosed because he was concerned that might affect his business dealings, said he insisted he had the right to carry two passports because he was a dual citizen. (A State Department spokesman confirmed this. The law specifies only that U.S. citizens must present their U.S. passport when entering the United States.)

The official kept him waiting about a half-hour, then returned both passports, the executive said. "But he said he'd put a note in my file that I was breaking the law and I'd get stopped the next time I traveled."

Klundt said all customs officials are required to take an annual professionalism training course, which is updated every year. "We're concerned about these negative situations and want to address them," she said. "But we also need to focus on our mission, which is keeping bad people and bad things out of the country."

Ridge said it was "that occasional rude person who creates all these horror stories.

"The welcome mat has a little dust on it right now," he said. "We have to spruce it up a bit."

O Brasil começa a se preparar para a mudança ortográfica que, além do trema, acaba com os acentos de vôo, lêem, heróico e muitos outros. A nova ortografia também altera as regras do hífen e incorpora ao alfabeto as letras k, w e y (veja quadro). As alterações foram discutidas entre os oito países que usam a língua portuguesa -
uma população estimada hoje em 230 milhões- e têm como objetivo aproximar essas culturas.
Não há um dia marcado para que as mudanças ocorram -especialistas estimam que seja necessário um período de dois anos para a sociedade se acostumar. Mas a previsão é que a modificação comece em 2008.
O Ministério da Educação prepara a próxima licitação dos livros didáticos, que deve ocorrer em dezembro,pedindo a nova ortografia. "Esse edital, para os livros que serão usados em 2009, deve ser fechado com as novas regras", afirma o assessor especial do MEC, Carlos Alberto Xavier.
É pela sala de aula que a mudança deve mesmo começar, afirma o embaixador Lauro Moreira, representantebrasileiro na CPLP (Comissão de Países de Língua Portuguesa). "Não tenho dúvida de que, quando a nova
ortografia chegar às escolas, toda a sociedade se adequará. Levará um tempo para que as pessoas se acostumem com a nova grafia, como ocorreu com a reforma ortográfica de 1971, mas ela entrará em vigor aos poucos."
Tecnicamente, diz Moreira, a nova ortografia já poderia estar em vigor desde o início do ano. Isso porque a CPLP definiu que, quando três países ratificassem o acordo, ele já poderia ser vigorar. O Brasil ratificou em 2004. Cabo Verde, em fevereiro de 2006, e São Tomé e Príncipe, em dezembro.
António Ilharco, assessor da CPLP, lembra que é preciso um processo de convergência para que a grafia atual se unifique com a nova. "Não se pode esperar resultados imediatos."
A nova ortografia deveria começar, também, nos outros cinco países que falam português (Portugal, Angola, Guiné-Bissau, Moçambique e Timor Leste). Mas eles ainda não ratificaram o acordo.
"O problema é Portugal, que está hesitante. Do jeito que está, o Brasil fica um pouco sozinho nessa história. A ortografia se torna mais simples, mas não cumpre o objetivo inicial de padronizar a língua", diz Moreira.
"Hoje, é preciso redigir dois documentos nas entidades internacionais: com a grafia de Portugal e do Brasil.
Não faz sentido", afirma o presidente da Academia Brasileira de Letras, Marcos Vilaça. Para ele, Portugal não tem motivos para a resistência. "Fala-se de uma pressão das editoras, que não querem mudar seus arquivos, e de um conservadorismo lingüístico. Isso não é desculpa", afirma.

O que muda

Entre 0,5% e 2% do vocabulário brasileiro será alterado com as mudanças

HÍFEN
Não se usará mais:
1. quando o segundo elemento começa com s ou r, devendo estas consoantes ser duplicadas, como em "antirreligioso", "antissemita", "contrarregra", "infrassom". Exceção: será mantido o hífen quando os prefixos terminam com r -ou seja, "hiper-", "inter-" e "super-"- como em "hiper-requintado", "inter-resistente", "superrevista"
2. quando o prefixo termina em vogal e o segundo elemento começa com uma vogal diferente. Exemplos: "extraescolar", "aeroespacial", "autoestrada"

TREMA
Deixará de existir, a não ser em nomes próprios e seus derivados
ACENTO DIFERENCIAL
Não se usará mais para diferenciar:
1. "pára" (flexão do verbo parar) de "para" (preposição)
2. "péla" (flexão do verbo pelar) de "pela" (combinação da preposição com o artigo)
3. "pólo" (substantivo) de "polo" (combinação antiga e popular de "por" e "lo")
4. "pélo" (flexão do verbo pelar), "pêlo" (substantivo) e "pelo" (combinação da preposição com o artigo)
5. "pêra" (substantivo - fruta), "péra" (substantivo arcaico - pedra) e "pera" (preposição arcaica)

ALFABETO
Passará a ter 26 letras, ao incorporar as letras "k", "w" e "y"

ACENTO CIRCUNFLEXO
Não se usará mais:
1. nas terceiras pessoas do plural do presente do indicativo ou do subjuntivo dos verbos "crer", "dar", "ler",
"ver" e seus derivados. A grafia correta será "creem", "deem", "leem" e "veem"
2. em palavras terminados em hiato "oo", como "enjôo" ou "vôo" -que se tornam "enjoo" e "voo"

ACENTO AGUDO
Não se usará mais:
1. nos ditongos abertos "ei" e "oi" de palavras paroxítonas, como "assembléia", "idéia", "heróica" e "jibóia"
2. nas palavras paroxítonas, com "i" e "u" tônicos, quando precedidos de ditongo. Exemplos: "feiúra" e "baiúca" passam a ser grafadas "feiura" e "baiuca"
3. nas formas verbais que têm o acento tônico na raiz, com "u" tônico precedido de "g" ou "q" e seguido de "e" ou "i". Com isso, algumas poucas formas de verbos, como averigúe (averiguar), apazigúe (apaziguar) e argúem (arg(ü/u)ir), passam a ser grafadas averigue, apazigue, arguem

GRAFIA
No português lusitano:
1. desaparecerão o "c" e o "p" de palavras em que essas letras não são pronunciadas, como "acção", "acto", "adopção", "óptimo" -que se tornam "ação", "ato", "adoção" e "ótimo"
2. será eliminado o "h" de palavras como "herva" e "húmido", que serão grafadas como no Brasil -"erva" e "úmido"

THE GREATEST REWARD

There is an old story about the Greek Marathon. Muscular,
conditioned runners paced nervously near the starting line for the
long-distance race. The time was near. They "shook out" their
muscles, inhaled deeply, and put on their "game faces."

In the midst of it all, a young stranger took his place at the
starting line. His physique was awesome. Taking no notice of the
other contestants, he stared straight ahead. Two prizes would be
awarded the winner of the Marathon: a magnificent bouquet of flowers
and the honor of standing beside the king until the conclusion of
other contests.

There seemed to be no question among the runners about who would
win the prize. It is alleged that the stranger was offered money not
to run. Someone else attempted to bribe him with property. Refusing
the offers, he toed the mark and awaited the signal to run. When the
signal was given, he was the first away. At the finish line, he was
the first to cross, well ahead of the rest.

When it was all done, someone asked the young man if he thought
the flowers were worth as much as the money and property he had
refused. He replied, "I did not enter the race for the flowers. I ran
so that I could stand beside my king!"

Those of us who have chosen to follow Jesus Christ are "running
the race" (I Cor. 9:24-25). It is a race that has a prize for those
who finish (notice, not those who finish first, but all who finish).
This prize, according to Paul, is an "imperish-able crown." The
rewards for those who enter heaven are described in scripture with a
lot of terms -- "many mansions", "streets of gold", "tree of life",
and the list goes on and on.

All of those things are attractive. That's why God tells us about
them.

But I would be willing to give up all the streets of gold and
settle for a small corner of a shack as long as I can know the reward
of being able to stand beside my King. That's what I look forward to
more than anything else. It is the one thing that will make heaven
the wonderful reward that it will be.

"...The throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His
servants shall serve Him." (Rev. 22:3)

Run the race with diligence. Your King is watching and waits for
you at the finish line!

O SEGUNDO DIA DO FICO...(OU NÃO SERIA O TERCEIRO?)

Creio ter sido este tão vexatório quanto o primeiro, tendo em vista que os envolvidos não apenas se distanciam por século e tanto, mas porque esta distância deveria ter servido para maturizar nossa democracia que anda aos frangalhos...
Sem intentar ao martírio do Renan, mas o desgaste, o sombrio, o sistema de "troca em espécie" - favor político aqui, licitação aprovada ali, simplesmente não pode mais existir, se é que temos algum direito de suspeitar, porque o de acompanhar as decisões já nos foi cerceado.

Pode este também ser considerado o terceiro, tendo em vista o segundo como a permanência do Senhor "não sei, não vi, não é comigo" no poder.

Ao final de assíduo estudo musical (ver link: http://www.questaodeconfianca.blogspot.com/), leitura de retrospectos, contextos, "posts" anteriores, só posso dizer: ufa...que trabalhão...
Parabéns, meu amigo, pelo estudo, e também por agir de forma tão equilibrada na resposta ao André...tanto ele quanto seus irmãos, mãe, tias,tio, primos...toda família está viceralmente envolvida com a música. E olha que já faz um tempão, hein? Lembro-me do "Pai Gonçalves" (Francisco?) nos Arautos do Rei...
Desculpe pela abordagem um tanto quanto informal, apesar do calor de formalidades que um debate como o presente nos propõe, mas é essencial que ocorra, pois a meu simplório ver ainda nos falta avançar rumo ao equilíbrio nesta arena de sons, ritmos e letras. Não dá mais prá aceitar que música seja tão subjetiva que deva ser pautada por seus efeitos e implicações individuais. Não me considero músico. Estudo desde os 4, 5 anos...até arranho um pianinho, teclado...um violão...desafino no trombone e sonho em me aventurar pelo populesco sax. Na voz, prefiro ouvir a cantar, a não ser que role uma harmoniazinha...quartetão?? Estamos aí...mas nada sério. Como leigo, e ser humano, tenho de admitir que passo por momentos diferentes quanto ao humor, à motivação, aos sentidos que nos interpretam a realidade de forma tão "embaçada". Gosto especialmente de músicas que me alegrem; também daquelas que geram reflexão, que evocam sentimentos puros de perdão, comunhão...
Não quero prolongar demais, portanto vou ao ponto: (também, tenho mais o que fazer, não é mesmo?.kkk) Temos procurado desesperadamente uma experiência com Deus, seja através de bons sermões, seja através da música (esta mais acessível de modo geral, e essencialmente aos jovens como nós...); Ouço com freq. o desejo que as pessoas têm de serem "tocadas"...mas tenho percebido que no campo musical temos buscado um paliativo para esta "experiência", através de um excessivo estímulo à emoções superficiais - que não oferecem mudanças reais, transformação que "o contemplar" deveria gerar. Em nossa busca desesperada por nos encontrarmos em Deus, e Ele em nós, acabamos por nos perder em nós mesmos...
O que nos é necessário, como sempre foi, em especial neste momento "morninho" demais - laodiceanos de plantão que me entendam - NASCER DENOVO.
Acho que a este ponto congruem todas as expectativas e projeções tanto soteriológicas quanto experimentais; tanto eclesiológicas quanto escatológicas. (falando direitinho, nossos desejos por salvação - a "eternidade" que nos foi plantada no coração, por auto-aceitação, por aceitação social e por aceitação final - redenção.)
Ahhh...como eu preciso nascer denovo...como eu preciso buscar a Deus na simplicidade de uma leitura da Bíblia em família, dos hinos cantados meio fora de compasso, até um pouco desafinados, muito diferentes dos shows que impressionam os sentidos, mas não têm mudado o coração, têm?

Relacionamentos do Futuro

Não é apenas o avanço tecnológico que marcou o início deste milênio. As relações afetivas também estão passando por profundas transformações e revolucionando o conceito de amor. O que se busca hoje é uma relação compatível com os tempos modernos, na qual exista individualidade, respeito, alegria e prazer de estar junto, e não mais uma relação de dependência, em que um responsabiliza o outro pelo seu bem-estar. A idéia de uma pessoa ser o remédio para nossa felicidade, que nasceu com o romantismo está fadada a desaparecer neste início de século. O amor romântico parte da premissa de que somos uma fração e precisamos encontrar nossa outra metade para nos sentirmos completos. Muitas vezes ocorre até um processo de despersonalização que, historicamente, tem atingido mais a mulher; ela abandona suas características, para se amalgamar ao projeto masculino.

A teoria da ligação entre opostos também vem dessa raiz: o outro tem de fazer o que eu não sei. Se sou manso, ele deve ser agressivo, e assim por diante. Uma idéia prática de sobrevivência, e pouco romântica, por sinal. A palavra de ordem deste século é parceria.

Estamos trocando o amor de necessidade, pelo amor de desejo. Eu gosto e desejo a companhia, mas não preciso, o que é muito diferente. Com o avanço tecnológico, que exige mais tempo individual, as pessoas estão perdendo o pavor de ficar sozinhas, e aprendendo a conviver melhor consigo mesmas. Elas estão começando a perceber que se sentem fração, mas são inteiras. O outro, com o qual se estabelece um elo, também se sente uma fração. Não é príncipe ou salvador de coisa nenhuma. É apenas um companheiro de viagem.

Estamos entrando na era da individualidade, o que não tem nada a ver com egoísmo. O egoísta não tem energia própria; ele se alimenta da energia que vem do outro, seja ela financeira ou moral.

A nova forma de amor, ou mais amor, tem nova feição e significado. Visa à aproximação de dois inteiros, e não a união de duas metades. E ela só é possível para aqueles que conseguirem trabalhar sua individualidade. Quanto mais o indivíduo for competente para viver sozinho, mais preparado estará para uma boa relação afetiva.

A solidão ocasional é boa, ficar sozinho não é vergonhoso. Ao contrário, dá dignidade à pessoa. As boas relações afetivas são ótimas, são muito parecidas com o ficar sozinho, ninguém exige nada de ninguém e ambos crescem. Relações de dominação e de concessões exageradas são coisas do século passado. Cada cérebro é único. Nosso modo de pensar e agir não serve de referência para avaliar ninguém. Muitas vezes, pensamos que o outro é nossa alma gêmea e, na verdade, o que fizemos foi inventá-lo ao nosso gosto.

Todas as pessoas deveriam ficar sozinhas de vez em quando, para estabelecer um diálogo interno e descobrir sua força pessoal. Na solidão, o indivíduo entende
que a harmonia e a paz de espírito só podem ser encontradas dentro dele mesmo, e não a partir do outro. Ao perceber isso, ele se torna menos crítico e mais compreensivo quanto às diferenças, respeitando a maneira de ser de cada um.
O amor de duas pessoas inteiras é bem mais saudável. Nesse tipo de ligação, há o aconchego, o prazer da companhia e o respeito pelo ser amado.
